That's just because had he not skimped on the grease - you'd not have seen it. :p

Guzzis do that too (over longer). Wait till you have been wearing that part almost 40 years! - there is ALWAYS some tolerance there - otherwise you would never get the wheel on. If it can chatter - it will wear.

Try spray on dry lube as well as grease. Good firearms lube ;) Moly/graphite/PTFE - every little helps. If you have time - hand burnish it into the steel.

That or weld the splines and remove the 90° box to get the wheel off - Oh wait - drive shaft splines. Weld that - ah wait gearbox output shaft splines .......
 
i would guess the male splines on the wheel would have a little wear also
 
I can't tell if they're worn of if I'm just seeing a "step" in the grease. Have to wipe it down to really tell. The teeth looking angled could just be from the camera used.
