Has anybody who has the OEM touring highway pegs figure out how to fix an issue with them refusing to stay up?

The way these are designed (which is clever but not made to last, imho) is by having the bolt thread inside the peg itself, so when you flip them up, the peg "tightens" on the bolt, against a sort of compression washer, creating tension that holds it up. Well, with years of use the thread inside the peg has worn out and stripped and this clever mechanism no longer works.

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out an easy way to get them to lock in an upwards position, without having to use rubber bands or drilling spring-loaded ball-bearings into these, or something crazy like that. Thought I'd check with you clever people first.

I have the same pegs but one of my pegs falls down all the time and I only have about 5 rides on it. At first I thought that the bolt was loose but its not. I was thinking of adding a super thin washer between the foot peg and the bracket to tighten it up.

Unless your thread is stripped too, you should be able to fix this by removing the bolt, then screwing it back in with the peg in the open position and pushed towards the back of the bracket (where the compression washer is). Theoretically.

My threads are gone on the peg itself, I might have to resort to the washer approach just to have it be really tight and hold upright that way.

My OEM Highway pegs on the R3T don't have the 90degree crank and just bolt through the clamp on the engine bars and you can just flip them up out of the way in tight spaces and rotate the angle of the tread to suit ,I have mine set low so I can rest my heel on the front of the foot boars and still stretch out my legs.

If the threads are gone you could always try a helicoil, will need to get the peg out, drill out the hole a bit and tap new threads before fitting the helicoil. Would want to locktite the coil in as well, prevent it moving about with use.

try Viagra, Works for me.:) It sounds like the wavy washer may have crushed flat. If you can't get the pivot bolt out go to the hardware store and get a replacement wavy washer that matches the bolt size, cut a slot the with of the bolt and slide it between the existing washer and the peg mount. I would draw a picture but I don't have an Etch-a-Sketch.
