Just wondering if anyone has actually taken the R3 to its limit? I've seen and heard the number 140mph tossed about but that seems rather exaggerated. Can someone confirm that?

It is exageratted, unless you have a header system, improved air intake system and an excellent dyno tune from a pro.
My 2012 With 62,000 miles and all the above was fully loaded with panniers and rear bag on a trip in Arizona last week. I got into a pissing match with a hot car and it did 146 on my Zumo GPS.

From the TuneECU & Tuneboy (TuneEdit) maps for "stock" models;

20222 Rocket III 218.0kph (135mph)
20215 Rocket III Classic 193.9kph (120mph)
20256 Rocket III Touring 185.0kph (115mph)
20352 Rocket III Roadster 194kph (120mph)

If you allow for the stock speedo error of +6% then ~140mph for the original Rocket III would be someone telling the truth of what they saw.

Of course, if you get into modifications...

It is factory limited. 146 means..."She ain't stock".

Nay nay. My engine is completely stock.
Only exhaust, intake and a tuner guru have been added.
After this happy surprise, I now must give it another try without my metal panniers, tank bag, and rear rack with bag . . .
