On this day in 1967, at the age of 68 and on a 47-year-old bike, Burt Munro set a new World Record in the Flying One Mile Class S-A 1000cc! His average speed of 183.586mph remains unbroken.

A true Kiwi Hero!!!

I stopped at Bonneville this last summer on my way to California. My first time there, it's really something to see.

The film is pure entertainment and in conjunction with Tom Hanna's book (One Last Run), which is a bit more factual, makes a fascinating story about an amazing man.

He was one year older than I am now when he took that record, I get the collie wobbles doing half that speed, ffs.

Nope!! Burt never did the lemon tree trick at all. It was the father (or grandfather?) of the film's producer, Roger Donaldson, and Donaldson apparently decided to add it to Burt's role as a "human touch..."

(I am a fantastic source of useless information.....)
