You're NOT THE FIRST heated grip failure. Common enough. Something is definitely wrong with the plastic; when heated it becomes brittle.
I BROKE IT TRYING TO RE ATTACH the cables after putting the new risers on have had no trouble at all with them in the 11 years and 100.000 klm its going to dealer to get grips replaced and have the valves checked . has not bin done since upgrade kit years ago if at all . was not impressed to see it was plastic

Just about ALL M/C throttle tubes are. They thus have less friction against steel bars and being softer will not damage the steel. If you get a CNC tube- MAKE SURE THEY ARE DELRIN (or similar) LINED. Harley throttle tubes WILL FIT.

The Avon grips I have just fitted are very grippy, btw.
