I was taking my rear wheel off last week to clean and inspect the bearings, brakes, etc.. when I stuck my finger in the inner race of my bearings, they would not turn. I saw no wear on the axle shaft, and no signs of damage to the bearings. I decided to buy new bearings, and after heating up the wheel, and driving out the bearings, (with a blind hole puller) the bearings came out and turned fine. I was dumbfounded! To make a long story short, the spacer between the bearings was 1/8" too long, and was puting pressure against the inner races. I took the 1/8" of material off the spacer, and reassembled the wheel, an it is like I have been riding with the brakes on this whole time! I can push the bike backward with ease now, and it is like a new machine. It had to have been a factory defect, so take the 30 minutes to pull your back wheel and check it out. I know I can't be the only one. Hope this helps someone.
