The 2 small metal sieves in the sump... why?

My mate who has a HD has been helping me rebuild the motor... And he has asked why Triumph has put 2 metal sieves in the sump to catch the crap.. He says it is to fool triumph owners that their engine is nice and clean, no crap being produced when oil is changed,, when the truth is you only see it if you take the sump off...

My guess is that its something to do with it being a dry sump, and catching the crap before it is pumped though the oil ways.. Just cleaned mine out and there was a load of crap in them, no metal though..

Anyone know ??

Yes the oil is scavenged thru them before the oil enters the system. If it is the first time you take the sump off most likely the crap is swarf from the manufacturing process.
