I don't usually park our cars on our driveway - it's easier to leave them on the road and also means I can ride in and out on the bikes without moving stuff.

But yesterday I had them both parked up (those who have been here have seem the ramp to my garage).

Overnight we get quite cold, they get covered in frost: and then the sun rises and the ice melts. This morning I went to move the cars to get the R3 out and all the ice from the cars had thawed but had refrozen on hitting the ground. Was a ruddy skating rink. The missus car nearly slid into the stone gateposts - and even the LandRover lost a bit of traction.

If they'd not dribbled I'd have been unaware - All I ruddy need is to hit a damp, sun free, corner today and whoooooooooooooooooooosh.

The R3 is staying indoors. Wuss? me? - hell yes. Falling off hurts.

I started realising how much it hurts when I suddenly found I'd stopped skating and started falling. Age, reaction, balance etc. I'm not quite 60, but I don't seem to bounce as well as before. Still it's usually not THAT COLD for more than a week or so. Forecast for this week is cloudy - which means it's warmer.

No kidding Chris. I'm 70 and oh so careful now. We have a steep and fairly long driveway and, while our winter has been fairly mild this year, we've had some very frosty mornings with a thin layer on the concrete and asphalt. The roofs are white with it. I started to walk down the driveway the other morning and one foot slipped. NOPE. Back in the house I went.

I see way too many friends my age and older coming in to our local watering hole with damaged faces or knees from a fall. One friend, the prez of our local classic car club, did the splits with his two artificial knees. One went one way and one the other. He said when his wife pulled them back into place, it sounded just like smashing two rocks together. He could barely walk for several weeks.

Now we have had a warmish day (10°C plus) - but the neighbours house alarm went off so we popped over to have a look as it was turning dark. Skated across their north deck (tiles) - Still iced over. Exciting!

    We have the opposite problem.
41 degrees C (106 for the yanks). Too bloody hot. Same for tomorrow. Up north it will get to 48 (119).
We have the Tour Down Under starting today. This cycle race goes 129km (80 miles) today and a similar distance tomorrow.
Airconditioning and beer is the order of the day.

We lived in Maine when I was stationed on an Ocean Going Minesweeper back in the late 70s and heavy snow was the norm. By son is stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground in MD and just got hammered with more to come. Our daughter is stationed at the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs and also got hit. And she transferred there from Florida.

I must say that Warp9.9s photos are quite beautiful. What a lovely area in which you live my friend I'd love to look out my back deck and see light forests, farms and fields, even if they were buried in snow.

We haven't seen significant snow in a few years but when we first moved here from Hawaii in 2003 we had a few snowy winters. This was Christmas 2008

And in 2012 after I had built my shop. My wife loved it but she doesn't have to shovel.

Boony; yikes! I had no idea it got that hot down under.

I was in the states in February 2015. Cedar Rapids got to -29F before we came to our senses and went to Vegas and California. The lowest Adelaide has ever got to is -.5C (31F). -29F was a culture shock to say the least. I complain when I can't ride for week!

Just looked up Forrest City on Google maps. I just added it to my list of "places to which I must ride"
