China will soon be a front line Navy. Their ships are high tech and high quality with well trained and disciplined crews, the latter more so than US I am very sorry to say. The absolutely deadly, disastrous collision fiascos with destroyers McCain and Fitzgerald are illustrative of the systemic problems and dismal proficiency level of Navy ship crews. Being able to a button and fire a missile salvo is a far cry from having the training and discipline to fight a ship and prevail in combat when the steel starts hitting the decks.
Also recall the two heavily armed US Navy gunboats that surrendered to three Iranian small craft, ones that didn't rise much above the level of lightly armed bass boats, without firing a shot, much less resisting in any way.
It used to be that Chinese submarines were very noisy but now they are quite and stealthy. From Janes:
"The Pentagon’s recent annual report on the Chinese military spotlights growing Chinese naval capability, underscoring the narrowing gap between the Asian power’s maritime forces and those of the US Navy (USN), as well as drawing attention to China’s increasing dominance in the Western Pacific."
China's long range plan is to have a multi-carrier fleet, fully capable of challenging the US Navy on the high seas. And they are moving forward full speed ahead.
SECDEF Mattis is diligently working to purge the Defense Department of the poisonous PC policies, embedded into our military during the Obama administration, that so significantly damaged our warfighting capabilities.
And the Brits are either ahead of us or not far behind in this. Several years ago I read an interview with a senior Royal Navy Admiral who said one of the Navy's highest priorities was to have a homosexual Admiral. Recently, senior British military commanders, officers and NCOs were warned not to criticize the latest military recruiting advertisements that stressed diversity over warrior ethos.
The Chines and Russians do none of this. They are just training their forces to kill the enemy, which is us.
