Squeaky brakes

My front brakes are getting awfully noisy especially at slow speed. So much that I sometimes hesitate to brake.

All 4 Pads have plenty left, 2 to 3 mm from the bottom of the replacement mark.

I washed and washed the discs, Cleaned the discs with brake cleaner, "loosened" the calipers and make sure everything's moving freely.


Yet it's still as loud, sounds like a freakin old bus breaking!

Anyone has a recommendation?

It sounds to me like the lining is glazed. Just replace the linings. If that is not what is wrong you will have a spare set of linings.

Owl's sugestion is the right answer. The squeal is caused by a very high frequency vibration and is caused by the back of the pad/piston contact being excessively dry. Smear a very small quantity of the grease on the back of the pads. make sure its a very high melting point grease and don't get it on anything else.

Seeing as your rear brake is permanently disconnected, I'm surprised you can stop at all - no wonder you ride so bloody fast :lol:

I've done this on cars, not on bikes, but you can affix the back of the pad with Duct Tape and reinstall them. The tape (gray) portion will burn off, leaving just the strings adhered to the pad backing. They will absorb the frequency vibration.

I believe it's called Power Tape or Gaffer's Tape for those of you outside the US...

Speed Tape could also probably be used, it looks like Duct Tape but it's aluminised and used on aircraft.

It's not permanently disconnected, it just got ripped off by dragging the brake pipe on the floor and it hasn't been fixed yet. Never use the bloody thing anyway.
