Might as well post a thread to start sharing progress. The Ural tub is from the mid 60's and needs attention everywhere. Seat, wiring and suspension are trashed. Need to deal with rust and really old paint.

So far I've ordered a DMC sidecar fitment kit to save some time on mounting.
Also getting some raked trees ordered as they take 2 months to make handline easier
I've used an entire bottle of penetrating oil since this thing hasn't been apart since it left the factory.
Currently starting to disassemble the fender and brake system so I can look at a way to weld a modern axle onto the swingarm to get a modern wheel/tire combo then change the fender out.

I need help finding swingarm and shock bushing replacements. Anything rubber is trashed.

Mostly I've been fighting the flu the past 10 days. It's disassembled but got a dead end on new bushings. I will press them out and take measurements for a bearing or delrin replacement. Ordered a paint gun. And now I need to measure all the bolts for replacement. Still waiting on fitment kit, I need to fight to get the axle out. It's as stuck as every other bolt was

So this thing had the original filter from 2009 still in it. Not expecting a performance increase but it was way past its life. Foam just crumbled. Got 1 of 3 major bushings out. Either need to cut the last 2 or find a hydraulic press. Axle is still being dumb.

Today was a spending spree.
I've bought a 2k pound trailer spindle/bearings/hub to update to a modern axle/wheel/tire. I'll burn it in and reinforce it so it'll be much stronger. I will then use a 15"x4.5" drag wheel that doesn't require tubes and accepts a regular car tire available at any store nationwide. Once it's mocked up I can determine proper offset and order the wheel. Tire will be a 175/65/15 and I'll do a custom fender. It's 1.5" shorter than the original but this isn't an offroad rig so it'll be fine.
Bought the swingarm bushings, bolts, nuts.
Got a new seat.
Got a 20 ton hydraulic press to do it all.
New bump stop and bushings for shock mount.

The plan is starting to come together.

Your a bad, bad influence! ;)

I just bought my next sidecar project - a 1000km road trip to pick up this week end. Chairs are going for big prices in Oz now so I couldn't resist

A similar model fitted

This covered version would be cool

This looks like it matches the bike pretty well. But it only comes in 1 offset so I may need to compromise with something else. Need everything for mockup first. I hate these shipping timelines.

Minor progress on materials. Got the 2k lb trailer spindle, idler hub, tire, and paint gun. I can start cutting up the swingarm soon then mock up tire to test fit for wheel backspacing.

Custom rate fork springs to have this bike stop feeling like an 80's Cadillac while also controlling the mass of a sidecar. Traxxion knows their sh!t. Also told the fitment kit from DMC Sidecars shipped today so the holidays will have some cutting and welding.
