I have an "Adaptive" motorcycle radar detector which has a visual alert, 3 led lights in a cluster which sits somewhere in your vision. Mine is attached to the handlebars. Problem is, when the sun is behind you it is difficult to see the red light going off.
I also have the bluetooth audio alert in my helmet but its a bit unreliable due to me not turning it off all the time and the battery going flat!!.
I want to wire in an led strip light about 8 inches long to go somewhere up front but its more difficult than just wiring it into the existing visual alert wiring ive found.
Question....how do i get it to work??...any tips from you wiring gurus keenly sought...cheers.

There are a few ways, but, I’d probably use an IC that will supply 12V when a certain pin goes high voltage (when the stock led turns on). Essentially acting as a micro solid state relay.

I just use the Bluetooth on mine, I don’t look at the led’s. I use the escort radar that uses escort live. It works through my phone and my warnings are fast.
Just have to meep my Bluetooth unit on my helmet charged.

Good luck

Something like this

Altronix RB5 6/12VDC relay module | Graybar Store

You’d cut the stock wire to the leds. Use this little relay board to power the new leds. I’m guessing the reason they don’t work wired straight up is that the original leds are probably 3 or 6 volt and the ones you want to use are probably 12V, so won’t illuminate. This relay can solve that.

Or a simple solid state chip can do the same thing in a much smaller package.

Im thinking your'e right ...
I put the positive and negative wires of the new led strip bar directly onto the battery terminals to see if it would work and of course it did.
I then tried wiring it into the Detectors led warning light and it wouldnt work. I bought a resistor and it still didnt work, so what you are saying adds up to me and i will try that...thanx, will let you know.

I'm in that 1%er way of thinking, who needs a radar detector or an alarm system...;)

I have to agree....somewhat. Radar detector yes, absolutely no need. The reason I use one, and I have to admit I only used it extensively when I lived in Alberta, photo radar is abundant. Other than that I don’t use it.

The alarm system I use is the Scorpio 900. I didn’t install it because I was afraid the bike would get abducted but rather I get a good discount off my insurance premium for having one and as it comes with a proximity sensor, I get a notification that someone is getting a little too close to the bike. When I travel and all my gear is strapped the the bike, the alarm system does an outstanding job of letting people who think the can borrow the gear that they won’t be able to do it quietly.

Need depends on use of course. If one were to regularly tour at 120+ a detector would be a good idea :p
