Still looking for the best (smoothest ride) for the rear shocks on my R3. Can't seem to narrow it down. (Along with tires.)

I took a car for a test drive the other. It had 3 suspension settings at the press of a button - Comfort, Normal and Sports. The Comfort setting gave the smoothest ride on the rougher road while the Sports setting was choppy. But on a really good surface, the Sports setting was best, as the Comfort setting sort of wallowed and rolled. Your question is not easy to answer; I doubt there is a simple "best". It depends on where you'll be riding, how you'll be riding, how much weight you'll be carrying etc. And how much you want to spend. A lot of people swear by a particular brand/type yet there's have tried them and hate them - for a whole lot of different reasons, including service and serviceability, not just ride and handling.

If in doubt get a set that allow adjustment of damping and spring rate - Yes they'll cost a lot more. I'm personally VERY fond of air suspension.

My other bike (old Guzzi) is also a bike fussy about rear springing. I've not tried them personally but a good friend who runs a bike company swears by GAZI suspension for track and road bikes. They'll listen and build what you want/need.

Got Gazi's on my Rocket .. i'm reasonably happy with them. Could the ride be smoother ??.. doubt there is anything more i can do to the Gazi's to get a better ride out of them. Had them re-valved , resprung and dialed in by a suspension specialist. $600 shocks will give you a $600 ride .. perhaps

JMTCW but I have found a lot more pleasure riding since I installed Progressive HD 440 shocks and a Riken Raptor dark side tire on the rear and a Dunlop 404 front. All day is no problem even with the stock seat. Add the Rivco risers and ride till you drop.

SX or HX?

I'm not going to trade in my Fournales - But I do have to replace the Guzzi shocks.

I got the Progressive 412 on my Roadster which I find and improvement of the stock which i found a bit of harsh ride.
I found that there is not a lot of choice out there for such a heavy bike.
I went to a motorcycle suspension specialist who said it depends how much you want to spend! They gave me a couple of options and different brands, I opted for the Progressive 412 in full black which is a medium priced choice. But they are not off the shelve they had to make them up for me. As I was looking the aesthetics as well as the ride improvement.

Not sure of model , they are not the piggybacks. They are a conventional looking gas /oil emulsion shocky. 10 adjustments at the bottom of the shocky.

progressive's new 944's

i ordered a set of them for my 2013 harley roadglide ultra, and it is about the same weight as my 08 rocket III classic. if i like them, i'll probably order a set for my rocket. the stock shocks belong on a friggin dump truck cause they damm sure don't work well on the rocket.
