Ride
2008 R3 Classic
Hi all

Im looking at replacing my stock shocks (08 Classic)
Need advice on the progressive 444's . Do go for 12.5 " or 13" ?
Whats the exact model number to suit my bike ?

I have a 2015 Roadster and went with the 13" 444 standard not heavy duty absolutely love it. I weigh about 240 lbs 5' 11" (on a good day) if that helps

Here is their website with options and part numbers depending on size spring rate and chrome or black

I had the 12.5 on my 05 and it was a little harsh. I swapped to the 13 and all was good. I have shorter legs also but at 5'9" it was a good setup. There is a big difference (to me anyway) in the two different lengths concerning the way I ride. Much smoother with 13 for me. No problem putting my feet on the ground, not quite flat footed but close enough. I never fell over so there's that.

My friend has an older R3 and he tried Progressive 444 shocks only to find that he was very uncomfortable using any but the standard . The heavy duty shocks
were a "teeth jarring" experience. He weighs about 230 lbs. . Hopes this gives some insight !

If it’s of any use to people, Hagon Suspension here in the U.K. do very good replacement shocks. I had some fitted to my previous Rocket, always two up and I pulled a Single wheel trailer. Sent Hagon our weights and Tare weight of the trailer and the shocks they supplied were superb.

I have the 412's in 13" but you should go 13" regardless unless you go 412's and are a short or small person
I have had myself (280lbs) and some other people on the back who are similar in size to me and all i needed was one more tick on the shocks to ride properly.
IMO there is no reason to go with the 444's unless you have 2 up ALL THE TIME with big people like myself or you are a VERY big person and you have stuff bolted on loaded to the max.
I will add that if you have the $$$ go with the 444's because race bike, they are a better ride due to the on the fly shock dynamically adjust damping but i think that part is more a gimmick than you think and im not sure if anyone here has actually tried them all out to compare the ride difference with anything other than their butt dyno.
DO not be fooled into thinking you need more if you are NOT carrying MORE every time you ride.
