A lot of folks have posted pics of their great powdercoated bits and pieces but I have no clue as to the costs.

What should I expect to pay to have both wheels coated black or a candy red?

What should I expect to pay to have the bearclaw coated black or a candy red?

I'm asking so that I don't get ripped off when I shop around to have it done.

A good base price for powder coating is .10-.12/sq. inch. Several factors can significantly increase pricing:
-custom color
-surface prep (dip/etch etc..)
-oversized - undersized object
-powder requirements (high heat, textured, gloss level etc...)
given the most extreme of circumstances the $/si should not exceed .20-.22.

Those are rural Ohio prices and I have no knowledge of pricing structures outside this general geographic region.

Thanks, ew.

I just got back from a local shop who quoted $210 for the front wheel and $275 for the rear in a satin black. Of course that's delivered to him unmounted with the bearings pulled. He would clean, prep and coat.

Bearclaw in a candy red would be $85.

Are those reasonable prices?

Based on the price structure above and the local shop I use the bc would run in the $28-$30 range and the rims as you described unmounted and such would run $85-100 front and $120-$130 rear. Based on the pricing your describing, it sounds like the shop you are describing is a motorcycle / automobile body shop that provides pc services and you will only get the pricing I am describing by going to a pc specialist? Or maybe they are just fond of their services?? I have used the pc shop that I am referencing for at least 7-8 years and can verify that they are a reputable specialty shop. I am not saying the shop you are getting the pricing from is grossly overpriced but rather if they do not run a "true" pc shop then they may have substantial setup/teardown costs that a dedicated pc shop would not have.

Thanks again, ew. It's a one man specialty PC shop that's been open for about 14 years (and it looks the part). He has parts hanging everywhere so he looks legit but he may be looking for an easy mark with this newbie.

Perhaps if I really am ready to take the plunge and go down the pc money pit, I'll check in with your guy.

Just got the actual quote back from the Powdercoat shop I use, and
bc= $25
front rim = $65
rear rim = $90
that would be for a bare rim (tire and bearings removed) and he cleans, etches and applies powdercoat. That is for standard black (matte or gloss) any custom color would add 20%.
