oil tank cap

ok another dumb newby question,my new to me 06 rocket has a temperature guage cap,it does not want to come off so is this a pull off cap a srew on cap or whats the secret.just dont want to tear up the cap to check oil..lol

thanks for the quick repy,finally got it to pull up.must not have been off in awhile.oil was on low mark so filled up with mobile 1 full synthetic.now motor sounds better...thanks again

always start the engine first for about 30 seconds to pump any oil from the sump back to the tank prior to checking oil.

Yes, very important. Also, not always obvious but you should make sure that the bike is standing vertical and not on the side stand.

another oil cap related question.
I know we have the option of the smaller one or the larger one,
but has anyone found a suitable locking one?
Call me paranoid or whatever but last year at the RAA
with the harleys having a rendezvous just across the street,
and knowing how people think,
especially some of the more unsavory ones among them,
I thought how nice it would be to have a locking oil cap.
A handful of sand would pretty much end your motor
and a $20-$30 cap is cheap enough insurance.

When I first got my bike w only 2K miles on it, I couldn't get the cap out either. I finally figured out the previous owner, RIP, had taken the time and effort to counter sink in a small set screw that secured the cap quite well.

Now that would be a good idea... Keep it hidden a little and no one would know the difference...

Then again I have an alarm on mine so if you get close ya people are going to know about it...
