69 BSA Rocket 3
Hi... i work part time at a local bike shop doing electrical work generally on older restorations. Familiar with oldie Japanese bikes, but this is my first BSA Rocket 3

Heres the story..Long time customer inherited the bike from an old friend. Bike had been mothballed... drained of fuel, with no battery, in climate controlled storage, since 1983.

i started the research on the marque, and have begun to familiarize myself with the positive ground, lucas etc stuff. The bike looks very original except for aftermarket exhaust and a nasty black paint job.
We re keyed the ignition, but before i put battery power to it I wanted to ask the collective if there were any tips or tricks to share. I have a number of pics and will post them as I am allowed. thanks very much..

Welcome Walt, great find! I'm sure there are some members here that will be able to give you good guidance, but the main focus of this forum is on a somewhat more modern Rocket III!

There's probably another forum that will be able to give you more specific advice, but please keep us in the loop on your progress!

oh yes, its a piece of kit alright... i don't think there is a single plug/jack on the whole bike, many 1/4" blade terminals under the seat .....but as i understand though, some folks love these Beezers ..i just finished a cam pulse generator on a CBR1000rr and am always amazed at the smoothness of these bikes...wonder how the rocket 3 rides...lets see!

Save yourself the misery of dealing with the Lucas electronics and install a 12 volt system.

Replace the fuel and oil lines.

I do not know the triples, but if they have the same sump system in the crank like the twins I would not think about trying to start it without cleaning it out. That will wreck your world.

There are others on here wiser than I that will probably chime in.
