Motorcycle airbag jacket

Over here the French company In&Motion, a start-up created in 2014 (they got a CES award) is quite successful with its autonomous electronic airbag jacket. They were known before for their skiers airbags.

Then they've developed one for motorcycles riders and before its introduction end of 2018, they've tested it during 6 months with 500 riders and took into account their feed-back e.g. reviewed the textile to make it less warm (in mesh).

Their airbag is the only one getting the max 5 stars SRA security rating (SRA is THE independent and very respected organism) : Classement des gilets airbag | SRA

Over here, the battle on such autonomous airbags will start in 2020 between 3 brands and models :

- the In&Motion can be found with their equipment partners such as Ixon, Furygan and Held today and very soon also with Triumph, Klim, RST and HYOD : Triumph

- the Dainese Smart Jacket : Dainese Smart Jacket - Motorbike Airbag System (to be tested by SRA)

- the AlpineStar TechAir-5 (available from March 2020) : Tech-Air® 5™ Airbag System | Alpinestars (to be tested by SRA)

They all have pros and cont :

- the In&Motion is the lightest with 1.3 kg (Dainese 1.8 kg and Alpinestar probably around 2). With the option of leasing, it is lifetime guaranteed (otherwise its priced at 800€ and 2 years warranty)

- The Dainese is operational also when stationery and when struck from behind (In&Motion should get it too in the future I believe - tbc) and easy to pack since it does not include any back protection. It is less expensive than the In&Motion except after an activation (to be carried out the airbag replacement for 250€)

- The Alpinestar is the one offering the largest protection including shoulders and is expected to be priced in Europe at 600€.

Interesting concept....I would be “THAT GUY” who pulls your safety tether when you stop at the restaurant

Nothing to pull : these 3 models are electronic autonomous airbag jackets ... (you've got to crash to get them deployed)

Not according to the video.

which video ? must be a wrong link then.

These airbags are autonomous i.e. nothing to fasten; this is their main advantage together with the activation speed resulting in 5 stars SRA certification (5 stars mean that their activation time happens just on time to be protected for most situations unlike the others).

From now on, those with a tether will belong to the past since none got more than 3 SRA stars out of 5 unlike the 3 models in question and because, finally, the price of these electronic and autonomous airbag jackets are pretty close to the tether ones :)
