I'm after a luggage rack to go behind the pillion seat (sissy-bar).

I know triumph make a fine looking rack but they charge an exorbitant amount and from what I understand only rate it to 3kg: 😲
I am also aware of the XL rack by LaMonster, which would be find but for the fact you need to order the entire Triumph rack first in order to fit it.

Are there any reasonably priced (and rated) luggage racks for the R3?
Seems like an easy product to make but I am completely unable to find anything. Is there something I've missed?

It's the fixings that cause the rating of 3KG not the rack itself. However a Triumph engineer said that they always allow a big margin of error and if you strap the bag tight to the sissy bar not just to the rack that will increase the load you can safely carry. I regularly carry 10kg on my Triumph rack (and that's 2 up).

The sissy bar is fine, is the rack on the back where the issue is. There is a post here somewhere with photo’s of a broken rack.
That's interesting, I haven't seen that. Is it the actual rack that's broken or the fixing brackets? The rack is milled from billet aluminum so is very strong, the fixings are cast so it's the fixings that are the weak point hence the need to strap the bag tight to the sissy bar.

Ahh, that makes sense.
BTW I use 1.5m SPT tie down straps to tie my bag to the sissy bar, they are lockable, cut / slash proof and can be pulled nice and tight.

I made custom rack as that sissybar doesn't seem to be very strong and i need proper luggages. I searched all kind of luggages and ended up in Shad ones. Those were a bit bigger than thought and i wanted to put them as tight packet as possible and as low as possible too. I don't really like the look of rear luggage in any bike, but need one. I sacrificed that beautiful rear light too and put rear luggage support through it. You can put just straight bars/tubes over that rear plastic and keep original rear lamp. Covers to holes might be a bit tricky, but not impossible. Mine is a bit thin itself, but i have bolted them to side cases rack as very sturdy packet. That Shad SH58X has optional backrest cushions, so you don't really need that sissybar.
