Gastank cracked.

I just wanted to show you my gastank with crack. Picture is front center. Anyone seen something like it?

Gastank cracked.

I just wanted to show you my gastank with crack. Picture is front center. Anyone seen something like it?

Where on the tank is the leak. Looks like bare aluminum. Fine sand, clean well, tape and JD Weld coat it. Sand and repeat with thin coat.

I do not recall anyone ever reporting a crack. Rusting thru from sitting until the bike was given away yes but cracks thankfully no.

tbh it does not look like a crack - more like a poor cut - it's rather square edged. Odd as hell.

I think its a bad weld from manufacturing. Its a very small leak, just made the paint bubble, no actual leak.

Welded it with TIG and put a thin coat of solder on. Leaktested no more leak. New paint this week. Happy new year!

In days of old, they told me to run exhaust fumes through the tank while welding (from another vehicle). This eliminated the oxygen. Never tried it. Used a soldering gun, with the tank half full.

Do what?

Flush the tank. Fill the tank with a inert gas such as argon. leave a small vent hole above the weld area. Then just weld it. I would not trust solder.
