Is the oil filter cap necessary?

Curious if any of you have run the bike without the oil filter cap. I know it potentially will keep the filter safe from rocks or whatever else the front tire spits up but is it really that much of an added safety?

I've been running mine without the cover. Other Triumphs have the oil filter in the same general area without a cover, albeit not quite as exposed.

Will the cover fit over a K&N filter with the wrenching surface on the end?

No idea. Use a WIX filter myself and cover fits fine.

Yes it will fit over K&N or you can buy the K&N in chrome and not use cover

Without. The Fram extra guard filter I use is slightly higher capacity. It has a rubberized grip texture, likely more resistant to a rock.

Why risk it? Says I with a car tire on the rear and rear on the front.
