I have a 2006 special edition. To my knowledge, the only differences from the standard are the heated grips, foot boards and tribal paint.

The 2006 Special is a Standard with extras not a Classic with extras.

There were some specials sold with factory changes, at least one had red rims.

Triumph does some really odd stuff now and then. There are mutant 2002.5 Daytona 955s running around with a mix of 2002 and 2003 parts that match no fiche as a whole because of the factory fire. Some had their demo show bike spares used because that’s all that was at hand during assembly lol.
