04 rocket 3 trippleK N s (4040) exposed, remapped,deresticted. straight out multiple exhaust
Hey Guys . just picked up a second Rocket 3 . My original 04 has 60,000 km on it problem free and runs well. The second girl I bought cheap also 04 with a spline that pivots without engaging a gear .Last owner replaced indent spring but no joy . I am assuming it is the retaining bolts on the selector drum/shaft mentioned here on other threads . Is there specialised tools required have heard of sockets for swingarm. Also a puller for the flywheel. Has anyone any advise

Yes it sounds like your definitely going to have to split the engine. It looks like you saying the splined shifter shaft rotates but the selector drum in not moving when you shift it. that or jumping out of second gear means the engine has to come out. But with the age of the bike I would say an update kit is in order to take care of a few other things that crept in over the first years of the bike. Rear output drive and lower timing gear on the crankshaft to be a couple of the items. There is a bunch and just because yours did not fail yet does not mean it won't. Beside the kit is cheap compared to the labor. That's the million dollar question! Are you doing the work or paying someone to do it for you?

Thanks for input . Yes I will muddle thru myself. The bike ran well before the fault, has a carpenter stainless exhaust not sure what else altered yet.Picking it up today. A mate got it without much info I just swapped an old 4x4 I had sitting for it. I hadn't thought to do the upgrade , however ? I will check the price for the kit . It would be the best insurance . Do I feel lucky mmmm?.

Good Luck Mate. I often thought of finding an R3 with the same problem and fixing it too.

Thanks Mate have started calling in all the favours owed and owing some to come with this project. The local Dealer quoted between 3-4000 . Am hoping to do it for 1000 all up. gasket kit plus oil/ filters puller and custom socket. Will do a photo walk thru

Update, the Exhaust is not a Carpenter as was first told rather something called a Rock 3. Otherwise motor is stock.

Perhaps he meant it was made by a carpenter.
Good on ya . It is very simple much like my spelling capacity, identical visually to the 3 into 1 on the silver back triumph carrrr pen tarr / LOL.

Can you post a picture of the pipe?
You should definitely be able to do it for under a grand especially if you Order the Kit thru Andy at NCY a lot of the guys in Oz use him. In fact if your going to buy the tools I would get a price from him. You can make the two sockets so you will just need the fly wheel puller stuff and the cam timing jig. Most if not all the gaskets come with the kit. I am not sure on the fuel filter but since you change the sending unit in the tank I would stick a new filter on her at the same time.

Your worst problem is going to be whether you want to add some other goodies while you have her opened up. You can add some of Nevs Street drop in cams with out pulling the head. But if you pull the head well then there is bigger cams springs and such and you can up the compression some for spunk :D
Ah decisions decisions :)
