I have just got my bike back from the panel shop. They widened the tank to hold more fuel
330km and the fuel light came on, 2 bars left.
440km the gauge said empty
482km and ran out of fuel
24ltrs to fill from dead empty

Attached is a couple of pics before and after, welll not quite, I for got to take a before pic so took one of my mates bike, his is the red tank

If anybody is interested, I had the job done by Motorcycle Panel and Paint, Malaga, in Perth WA, and he has done a great job. The casual observer would not know the difference.

Very subtle mod but the extra gallon is always useful on our bikes. So did they cut'n'shut it, putting in a band of steel? Did you have any problems with the mounting points? Got any pictures of the process?
At least it won't be as wide as my old RIII with fibreglass bearclaw covers on both sides

Sorry lads, no pics of the job, I live 400km away so dropped the bike off and picked up the finished product. They cut the tank down the middle and out to the sides, this left the bottom and mounts as is. The tank was widened by around 80mm by welding in a band. From the front on it just looks like my 2011 R3R.

Yeah they did the complete job, removed the tank, cut and shut, paint and replace. AUD$3655
I have attached a couple of pics from the bow to show how much wider. Bit hard to see in black but you get the idea
