It sure sounds like a hassle. Can the tank be partially lifted to gain access to the spark plugs? I thing these engineers design so most buyers have the dealer perform work at $95 an hour.

Ive been down this track so this may help you..
*Remove the seat.
*EDIT..loosen clamps on handlebars and roll the bars forward so to get the instrument panel out of the way.
*Take the strap over the tank off by undoing small bolt at rear of tank..it's an allen key you need. Then slide strap forward and off.
*Remove left panel that holds the OIL FILLER CAP.
*Now you can access the fuel line coupling easier...slide small cover away and squeeze clips on side of the coupling and lift hose coupling up. A small amount of fuel will leak from hose then stop as there is a non return valve in the banjo fitting under the tank so a small container is good to have for this.
*As you lift the tank there is a breather pipe at the front/right under the tank...have a good look as to where it needs to back before lifting too high.
*There is an electrical fitting on top of the motor with wiring going up to the tank. There is a clip at the back and under which you can lift and slide the connection apart.
*Now you should be ok to remove the tank.
See how you go...
