I find if I lift up on the shifter and then start to engage the clutch, then pull it back on quickly, it usually goes into neutral pretty easy.

I have to gently lift up (or down) on the shifter into neutral otherwise she will jump straight into the next gear. Maybe with the heel shifter you are applying too much pressure on shifter causing it to jump straight into next gear? Might try using only toe with shifter lever to lessen force on shifting.

Yeah, I've found that if my clutch cable isn't adjusted just so, it might not disengage enough and that makes finding neutral somewhat of a pain. Not otherwise much of an issue.
