Rocket 3R
Brand new 2022 Rocket 3R, had my 600 mile maintenance done at 700 with the dealership, just over 1,000 miles and I rode her hard and fast for about 3 hours averaging 97mph 140 top low about 67mph. After my trip I noticed it doesnt sound good at idle anymore or at low revs as there is distince ticking noise. Past 3,000 rpm the noise either dissapears or is covered by the roar of the exhaust and engine working...... any thoughts? Did I work it too hard? Its a Rocket so if 3 hours of beating on it already messed it up then ****. Maybe something common that just needs adjusting? Advice please!

The ECM may be a bit confused with the way you're playing with the throttle. Fire it up and let it idle till the radiator fan kicks on. Then shut it down. That should reset the 'tune' on the lower RPM. Assuming you have oil in it I doubt you hurt anything, the motors are pretty bullet proof. If it's still rough you can have the dealer reflash the ECM.

Ill give it a whirl and let you know if it worked.

Well I did what you said and then filled it up next day and drove around the neighborhood and its still ticking mostly at 2,000 rpm. I also noticed some other details that concerned me and Id like to know if anyone else has had these problems. Metal bluing from extreme heat as well as what looks like metal orings not flush on the exhaust manifold. Pictures to come.

Should I take it to the dealership and complain? Does anyone else have these discolorations or is mine defective?

Hi there. Did you manage to solve the issue that you had. My 2020 R has just developed a rather concerning noise as it idles.

Cheers

Hi there.
Did you manage to figure the reason / solve the issue that you had.

My 2020 R has just started the same behaviour as mentioned in the original post (between 2000 and 3000 rpm).
The ticking noise also appears when starting the cold engine and is disappearing when operating temperature is reached (except between the 2000 and 3000 rpm range).

Thanks and kind regards

If the noise tends to disappear after warm up, try tightening your exhaust mounting fasteners. My earlier model Rocket had a ticking noise when cold and that's all the problem was. The exhaust could leak, often giving you a noise that can be mistaken for something mechanical. Retorque and ride.
Thanks Gregger,

will try this and feedback if that did resolve the issue. Did try to narrow down the origin of the noise and it seems to come more from the right side and front of the engine.

Kind regards
