Done deal!!!!

I've been looking for years...finally the timing was right and I found the deal I could not pass-up. New 2007 still left un-setup at Southeast Sales in Milwaukee. Mulberry Red Std. III.

$4,000 off list. No freight no set-up just sales tax which I now understand is deductable thanks to the stimulus plan.

I am adding Jardines and matching fly screen right away. They are not even charging for the install and programming.

I did not do an air filter...will the unit run well with just the pipes and program?

I hope to pick it up Friday...I was seriously considering a 2009 Vmax...I sat on on and the fit of the bike was just not right...the air intakes hit my knees. The Vmax was also $5000 more.

The dealer's brother is a sponsored stunt rider...he said his R3 would not give up much to the 1700cc Max...

The Triumph tune they load will work well with your set up. You will get some popping back on the over run but that's normal and great fun when it sets car alarms off. It also helps you get through traffic. People tend to notice you if they think they're being shot at.

Can't help with the backrest, I don't have a rear seat.

I would advocate taking it easy for the first few miles, but that's stating the obvious.

The next best mod to consider would be replacing the shocks with Progressive 440s, Wilbers, Hagons etc., all of which are far superior to the OEM.

Congrats, sounds like you got a good deal. I bought a holdover '03 Speed Triple in '05, great deal and still got the 2 year warranty.

You won't find a quick release back rest for the standard rocket, only the touring model.

I got exactly the same bike earlier this year and had the Jars installed before I picked it up. The dealer did a great job on installing the header and pipes, I love them. He put a Triumph tune in (called it the "fattest" one available), but after a couple of weeks, I had absolutely no soot in my pipes, so it was running way lean. Also had horrible popping on decel. Got in on a group Tuneboy buy, got a tailored tune from Pig9r and she runs like a raped ape, nice brown/black soot in the pipes and minimal popping on decel. I strongly advise you get a Tuneboy or PCIII to feed the monster what it needs. I haven't changed anything on the intake side yet, but plan to go with triple K&Ns eventually. Again, congrats on the bike and the screamin' deal. I have ridden my '92 Harley twice since I brought the Rocket home and to be honest, I could ride nothing other than the Rocket for the foreseeable future and be perfectly happy. It's a great bike. Smart move joining this forum too, there's an incredible amount of experience and great folks here willing to help with any issues/choices/upgrades, etc.

I was under the impression that the decel popping is caused by the ECU allowing no fuel on a closed throttle. For those who don't like it you have to add fuel on a closed throttle. It stops the popping but doesn't enhance performance, it just wastes fuel. If you hate the decel popping it's worth it, but decel popping is not an indication of the tune being lean. No soot in the pipe may be, but decel popping isn't.

I'm sure a knowledgable chap like Piggers will be along shortly to correct me if I'm wrong. God knows, it wouldn't be the first time.
