DIY helmet lock.

A little quarantine project today. DIY helmet lock. Anchored some coated cable to the tank mount and then ran it by the battery, making sure it will not rub or pinch and wiring, and out by the left side passenger/pillion foot rest. As in the picture, if you put the footrest down it holds the helmet away from the bike. $10 worth of parts including lock. I know they could cut the cable as my wonderful daughter pointed out but if they want it that bad they will get it anyway. I will still take it with me if I plan on being away for a long period if feasible.

Hate to sound negative because it’s a neat job but I’ve seen helmets upside down like that used as rubbish bins and one time, outside a pub, used as a toilet. Given the height, even a dog could piss in it! Or, assuming you have faith in your fellow humans (or stray dogs), what about if it rains? Is it possible to bring the cable out the right hand side and maybe sit the helmet on the seat?

Yes about the seat. Length is fine to do that. This was a quick project and I like to tinker instead of just buy everything so point taken. You can flip the helmet over also. Maybe a version 2 in the works.

Have admit that was my first though as well. Kudos for the idea, I did that with my old bike. Just need a different position

Peeing anywhere near that close to my ride and it’s going to be a big problem!

After one experience with short but heavy rain, I always put my helmet upside up!
I have rope lock, so I use it for helmet and jacket. Someone told me that they stole his helmet in such a way that the strap was cut off and only the D-rings were left on the lock. That's why I pass the cable through the visor.
