Chrome frame covers

So, I picked up a set of chrome frame covers for my R3T, and I picked the non-ABS version. I wasn't paying attention to the fact that it says from VIN 476462. Mine is earlier than that, but how different could it be? Turns out the right side is different, apparently the fill-in panel behind the engine is mounted more deeply than on the newer ones or something, because the right one won't fit, or at least it can't be bolted down.

I'm going to break out the Dremel and do some macgyvering with some stout double-sided tape since it's just a farkle that can fall off if it wants to, but just as a warning to anyone picking up frame covers to chrome the bike up a little - won't work if the bike is pre-VIN 476642. Unless there's a third type of cover.

Careful with that chrome, when you're tooling it. Another forum member was cutting/modding a chrome part and got himself blood poisoning from just a tiny bit of chrome in an itchy bug bite. I'm sure you'll be fine, but no harm in offering a word of caution!
