For those who have a custom header exhaust know that even with the header ceramic coated and even with your leg being held away from the actual header, you will still get radiated heat from the header that roasts your calf when riding a while. After trying to get a custom heat shield made and cringing at the price (in excess of $150), I decided to go to Walmart and buy a Wilson soccer shield for $4.95 and try it. I can proudly say that it works like a charm. I now can now ride for hours on end and have absolutely no problems with the radiated heat from the exhaust. It even works for stop and go traffic and you can walk about with it under your britches unnoticed. Obviously when stopped you get the heat under your thigh but your calf stays nice and cool. I did fill in the tiny vent holes in the Wilson heat shield with some gasket maker I had laying around. As a bonus, you get two two shields for the price.

My compliments. That's a clever idea.
Won't stop your jeans from catching fire, tho ;-)

I had made a leather wrap around with velcro with extra layer of aluminum thermal heat barrier under more leather in the critical area.
Works great!

Good idea. Of course my first thought was won't that melt when you strap it on your exhaust? And I think that will look funny. Lol, Good thing you explained putting it on your leg.
