Anyone off to Daytona?

I was there in 2000. Had a great time.

I'm sure in the 19 years since it has changed though.

I'm going next week Monday through Friday. I stay in Port Orange, which is like no-man's-land compared to what it was like 10+ years ago. BW has changed a lot since it peaked in the early 2000's. In my opinion the changes were the result of a combination of the economy imploding and Rossiter abandoning Beach Street (not that I blame him). Beach Street is completely different than it used to be and BW in general has more of a circus feeling, at least to me, than it did years ago. But I still enjoy the atmosphere with bikes and vendors all over the place. Things have shifted north, leaving the south side of Daytona Beach kind of quiet, though. Still labeled as the biggest bike event in the world, so what could be bad about that?

I fly down from Boston and check in at the Hilton Daytona. It is a short walk to Main Street and the beach walk takes you to a lot of restaurants within walking distance. A lot of the action has moved from Main street to Bruce Rossmeyers Daytona HD . You can only do main street so much before it gets old that's where checking in at the Hilton comes in. Great food especially breakfast, hot tub. swimming at the beach etc etc.

Been there to visit Dr. Ferrer three times. He is in Monroe now so I visit him on the way to the Hills. One Rick finishes the beach house we might go back. A few hours people watching on Main Street is worth it. Never been to the races. I would like to watch GandPrix superbikes doing 200+ mph down the back stretch at Daytona Speedway. Gota do Ironhorse party at least once in your life.

Spent the day in Daytona Beach Bike Week yesterday. Saw a million bikes....mostly the same model Harley (Ultra Classic) going up and down Main Street.

Didn’t see even one Rocket III! Saw a couple of Triumphs, some custom choppers, way too many CanAm Spyders and Slingshots, a couple Boss Hoss creations and a slew of Goldwings.

Anyone else go?

I live 20-30 minutes north of Daytona. Don't like crowds and congestion but yesterday I rode thru town to a free lunch for Indian riders group @ Chases on New Smyrna Beach.

Stopped at a few venues...they are spread out everywhere it seems. Found some nice Milwaukee desert boots.

I saw quite a few R3s last Biketoberfest but none so far this bike week.

Rode to Daytona a few times and saw a modded silver R3 and chopped Matt black one. Also saw one when meeting up with Andy on Rt17 a week later.

Rode all over mid-Florida and only saw one other going the opposite way...

Actually, I really didn’t see as many bikes as the nice weather would indicate.
