Spurred on by threads from folk who suddenly find themselves without a working Speedo or Tacho. And given more of a kick following some emails from a guy here in Spain @drctjcp - I have decided to have a bit of a play adapting a UNIVERSAL speedo to the R3.

So I went onto ebay and found a CHEAP "knock-off" of the KOSO RX2N. 30Euros inc postage - so if I screw it up no big loss.
There are several on ebay - but I like this one as the needle is red.

The Original Koso comes in 10K or 20K rpm variants and with the option of a White face.If I were doing this for real, I'd go for teh white face. This one is a 15K tacho - but this fits into my plans longer term to use this as a GPS driven kph/mph simultaneous speedo.

So here we have it (protective film stays on until I have modified the wiring etc.

And a size comparison

If anybody has an old instrument wiring loom they don't want - would make life easier.

1st power on

I now have some solid wiring to do - I will be using a GPS speed sensor to drive initially.
Patience please.

One or two notes.

The first portion where nothing appears to happen - something is. It is not visible through the plastic. Sorry.

Note lots of "idiot lights". I will NOT be connecting these up to the stock harness unless I find a spare loom. Life is too short.

Great idea Chris, I wonder if you could get away witj using the male/female replacement harness plug out if the updat kit.

Every little helps - I know you must have a picture somewhere.

I do have a complete loom - but it is attached to a brand new boxed set of kmh instruments. I'm reluctant to hack that apart. Maybe his Electric-ness @DEcosse knows what the spec's for said plug are.
