V8 CHOPPER, BOSS HOSS, 2015 ROCKET 3 TOURING
I'm at home in pain with my hand throbbing from my motorcycle accident. I'm bored and want to ride the new motorcycle. Its not going to happen for at least another week. I have a few questions that some of you might know the answer to. #1 Many of you say they wish for a six speed trans, what is the rpm of the motor at about 80 mph, and what is the normal freeway cruising speed for most of you? #2 Has anyone seen a touring bike with a water temp gauge or oil pressure gauge mounted or is there an aftermarket kit for this available? #3 I like the way the stock windshield looks but it seems short, any comment

Mate here's 2 temp guages that replace your stock oil cap

About 3K on my Roadster at 80 mph
80 - 85 mph normal cruise
Touring guages unk to me
Go to Clearview http://www.clearviewshields.com/ to get appropriate height shields

Thanks for the clearviewshied info, that gives me many options. Is the roadster and the touring bike same gear ratio? Does 3000 rpm's seem like a sweet spot or to high?

I've done two 4,000+ mile trips this year and a rocket loves 80 - 85 mph. 90 is better but not many places other than out west where you can get away with that for an extended time

That is good to know, normally I go 80-85 also so if the rocket is happy without to much vibrations at that speed I will be happy. The Boss Hoss is going about 100 mph at 3000 rpm. I haven't had a smaller bike for last 8 years and the rocket suits me well in the way it looks and feels. I'll keep the Boss Hoss too but sometimes I like to switch up.

Just got back from 4 years in Germany. My classic loves to cruise at about 100-100 mph ;) though I'm sure she'll begrudgingly get used to 80 again as painfully as me :(
I find 80mph sits her right at 2900 rpm. any less and she gets kept in 4th.
No idea on windshields!
@Wrecka great link! Just might have to get me one of those!

Dave, I cruise at 80-85 myself with no engine concerns. At 85MPH indicated, the actual speed on my R3T is 80. The gearing is the same as far as I know. At times I may accidently ride at 100-105 indicated, still no issues.
The windscreen for me is perfect. I am 5'9" and at that 85mph, have very little burble bouncing my noggin around. Over that and I have a bit to contend with. The manual says do not ride over 85mph with the windscreen on but I find it tough to remove the darn thing when I am going over that speed...

The manufacturers put warnings in the manual on the advice of lawyers, someone somewhere crashed going 85 or 140 and blamed the windshield, since then the warning. Tonight I couldn't stand it anymore and decided to ride the bike. I only made it 30 miles of in town riding and my hand hurt to much so I wimped out and came home. Its my left hand and the clutch is still a little to much for it. I notice that the bike has more heat than my V8 bikes. Lots come up between the rear of the tank and the seat. I took heat readings when I got home and the hottest part is the right hand side of the engine cylinders, probably the exhaust headers are heating up that side of the engine. It is about 100 degrees hotter than any place else. I'm reading about 240 degrees. I'm going to have the headers wrapped when I get the D&D pipe set up, maybe that will help a little. The bike is smooth and shifts fine, the lights seem good too. I'm 6 ft so the windshield is a little to low, I need to experiment with the one from Clearshield that is 3 inches taller. If my **** hand didn't hurt I could of rode for a few hours instead of only one. Las Vegas is hot even at night but its a better time to break it in than the daytime in the sun.
