Prepping everything I can while waiting on my rotor puller. How do I split the cases with the cam timing chain still there? I've seen in another thread that I don't have to get into the head to split the cases, but I'm not sure how
Hard to tell in this photo, but I used two ratchet straps to secure this and then used a 2ft breaker bar. Hid behind the block just in case anything snapped and it finally busted loose
On the bright side, there were no metal bits in the sump pan. The last thing I did tonight was roll the engine over on it's side and pull the sump pan.
Tomorrow I assess the transmission.
My brother and I have only managed to break one piece while disassembling - unfortunately I can't find it on a parts diagram.
I neglected to disconnect it before we lifted the frame off, and I heard the ping as we clipped it.
Nearly into the engine now. Looks like when the previous owner wrecked he damaged the lower case and.. had somebody weld it back together and then applied a good smattering of JB weld. 🤦♂️
I just realized that I need to make castle sockets for the swingarm and engine mounts. Are there any other specialty tools I'll need to get to the transmission?
Honestly that was kind of my plan. I'm still unsure of what the transmission has in store for me, but I'm sort of prepared for this to become a parts bike if it costs a ton more to fix than the bike is worth.
