Free unrestricted maps for Rocket R GT and TFC now online

Hey Doc, did you get they answers you were looking for yet? I ended up going through all 50+ pages of this thread and found what I was looking for. It's a bit of research but it is all there. The main highlights are keeping the battery voltage up and don't do the adjustments. Takes less than 20 mins to load the map, and about 15mins more to let it idle at temp (i.e. after fans come on). I have loaded it twice now and no issues with the process.

For the reset adapt, did you not get these screens?
Why yes I did get those screens, and foolishly reset the adaptions. Penner even commented on the YouTube video after the fact saying don't do it! Luckily the only lingering problem was a check engine light from the crank position sensor, but TuneECU let's you fix that. The instructions are now on the TuneECU website...

Not really in the format I was looking for. I was hoping for a step by step, idiot proof set of instructions with the what not to do notes in their appropriate places. I too could go through the 50 pages and possibly compile that but I’m lazy and I was hoping some with it all in mind would do it for me. 🤪 😂
My mechanic may not need that level of pre-school instruction but I want him to breeze through it with no hardships or excuses.

I should probably change my handle to that now, no one is unseeing it!
I liked your video and the humorous notes. “I suck at guessing”.😅😅😅 That kind of initial fallout would stress me out to no end. I hate computer tech crap.

Thanks Doc, glad you liked it. As for the "steps" being in one place, the TuneECU instructions are pretty straight forward wrt using the app, but if I had to summarise the steps (assuming your guy has TuneECU and a working bluetooth dongle) I'd say:

  1. Make sure latest TuneECU is installed (new features, new bikes etc get added to each release, and newer maps need the latest version). Tal couldn't load the map, his app was too old and an upgrade fixed it.
  2. Probably worthwhile to flash your OBDLink to the latest version as well (I've done mine once since getting it 6 months ago).
  3. Also probably worthwhile to make sure your Android device (phone or tablet) is not an ancient piece of sh*t too.
  4. Locate the map on the TuneECU website and get it onto your Android device. There are 6 possible Penner maps: "US/Canada" and "Rest of World" maps each for TFC, R and GT. And maybe grab the stock map for your bike as a fallback should it go sideways. Assuming your guy knows how to do it, but you can just browse on your device and download the map and unzip it on later versions of Android directly, don't need to plug it into a PC or Mac.
  5. Again assuming your guy has TuneECU and a working BT dongle he doesn't have to add the dongle to the app to make them work together, but that is in the TuneECU instructions as well.
  6. Follow the instructions for TuneECU to load the relevant map into the app and connect to the bike - remember all the feedback wrt putting the bike on a trickle charge and pulling the headlight fuse as the process takes up to half an hour and the ignition is on all the time with all the bike's systems active. If battery voltage drops much below 12.5V the upload will fail.
  7. Write the new map - you can see how that progresses in my video
  8. DO NOT RESET THE ADAPTIONS!
  9. Power cycle the bike as described in the TuneECU instructions, go ride and enjoy.
Hope that helps?

That’s the format I was looking for. I’m giving this to my mechanic.

Much thanks Gaggeth-ho.
