THE REBIRTH OF NUMBER 74

IMG_1419.JPG Yes indeed. Bike is taken a bit but this is a 69,000 rebuild. I have to be carefull and get her right top to bottom. If not I could find myself on the side of the road in 100% degree heat at 80 % humidity. Or better yet find myself In 5 degree temps and freeze my rear end off. Really have to pay attention to details. Bike has never been trailered. Not about to rebuild her from top to bottom and and ask for help getting Her from point A to B. All the bikes I have ever owed have been my main means of transportation. Yes in my later years can afford the luxury of a nice car. Don't make a difference to me. Car is nothing more than a back up when the bike screws up. You all getting my point?:roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

Brake Job from start to finish. IMG_1424.JPG must have along with simple green. Spray everything down with brake cleaner. Then follow up with simple green. A good rinse is required. Follow up with the Alcohol. The alcohol will displace the water. IMG_1422.JPG I replaced all the rubber boots with new ones. Reason is simple as time goes along. Do clean out all of the pin and insert areas. Grease the hell out of them. IMG_1427.JPG Ok back to the seals and pistons. I used a very small and pointed prick (aircraft Term) to remove old seals. IMG_1419.JPG New seals are a must have if you remove the Pistons. You think not then you're a braver man than me. Next I inserted new seals starting with the main seal not the outer dust seal. They only go in one way. Fingered no tools allowed. You get it right they will go in with no binding at all. As you insert your finger and pull outward you will feel a lip on the inside main seal. If not you screwed up and need to start over. Dust seals are a no brainer. IMG_1429.JPG After you slide the two parts together with excessive amount of grease go ahead and clean up. Final assemble to follow IMG_1425.JPG New clips are a must have IMG_1427.JPG You all getting this? IMG_1430.JPG Now with the new rubber boots and the proper amount of grease the two pieces will slid back and forth. New Pistons and seals installed correctly and you have some good working back brakes. IMG_1431.JPG I very seldom use my back brakes. When I do they need to work properly. Here In Oklahoma we have mostly straight Highways But if a emergency stop or slow down is required I do want the **** things to work.
