To ATGATT or not to ATGATT - and to what extent

Impact protection remains my main concern. Leather, Kevlar®, Knox®, etc., and padding mainly assists in mitigating abrasion-related injury. Our heads, necks and spines are podium candidates for life-changing impact-related injury, though. We all wear helmets, some use back-protectors (possibly even without knowing it), but very few consider and protect the neck.

Do we have anyone with neck-brace experience - either tried it, used it, plusses/deltas? Like I mentioned in the opening post, I am considering getting one for my pillion (my wife), but nobody seems to use them. Perhaps a pronounced back protector instead - so that the helmet can butt against that upon neck-whipping impact. But you can hardly use that with a pillion backrest.
I don't see many people use them but there are air bag vests that blow up upon impact and protects the spine, chest, and neck. A little expensive and not really suited to hot weather it seems.

No one seems to have stated, that which is customary in ATGATT discussions, the value of the protective equipment is directly proportional to value of what it's protecting...and we are 3 pages in....you're welcome
I remember watching one gentleman prepare to depart after his fuel stop... He was in full leather from his boots to his pants to his jacket. I chuckled, picturing the perfect organ donor, as he put on his full-fingered leather gloves and road off... with no helmet. I support adults making their own decisions... but that just seem a bit odd to me.

...i think for those who understand WHY we wear it already know....its a no brainer..

I won't bore you with what I wear exactly, but it's ATGATT.

I think there is a misconception, possibly, that those of us who do so are afraid of riding. For many of us out there who either ride a lot (increasing odds), ride "spirited" (increasing odds), or both (X²) it is not fear based, it is reality based.

In my 30 years as a career Firefighter/Medic, I picked up more then a few motorcyclists. I even got to use a Hurst tool to separate one rider from his machine. Many cried as they complained of the burning of their extremities, explaining Road Rash to them at that time was a little too late to help. After destroying my 05 Rocket back in 2016 on an interstate South of Nashville, I came to appreciate the benefits of wearing the full gear. The helmet did its job, as did the other items I was wearing. Ill continue to wear the gear.

Wearing protective gear has been a challenge for me. I have finally found a full armor jacket
Rokkertech that I will actually wear when its 85 degrees out and in winter I wear it under leather or oxford softshell. Found great summer gloves also.

Been wearing a full helmet since 09 after riding with a half helmet for 30 years. I wore it for a cross country trip and have worn a (modular) full helmet since. The only thing I don't like about it is it blocks some of your peripheral vision (Schuberth). Other than that a full helmet is the ****. Personally I like the shelter from the sun. Protection from rain, buggs, cold.... And of course the safety factor. If I made the switch from half to full, anyone can and am not the slightest interested in going back.

You can still get the wind in your face feeling if you buy motorcycle glasses and wear them with the visor up on the full face. Best of both worlds.

Well I agree and attire much like Estoma. I will wear a half helmet on my fairing bikes and realize it is not the safest covering. I wear as much safety gear as I can be comfortable in. If it is hot and miserable then I will take it off. I do accept the risk of motorcycling for fun. So no, I am not an ATGATT dude.
Yea Mel but you do keep la pistola on the right hip for extra protection :)!
