Keyless ignition

My Digital Guard Dawg, just showed up today. Install tomorrow. Very anxious to get it installed. Then the only thing I will need the key for is to lock the bars.

Funny how much fear of theft there is vs how statistically rare it is. My cars and bikes sit in my driveway or open doored barn with the keys in the ignition or setting on the console for 35 years now. Locally, I don't even take the key out at the bar or store.
Which stat? The report to insurance company's where your rates are jacked up and possibly cancelled if you do report it so people won't do it. Maybe the police report where the chance of first getting them out there for a theft crime is almost zero so you have to drive to the police station to make a report and we all know it probably gets round filed. Think of all the people in high crime areas that have no insurance that don't report theft because they don't want to get targeted again. By that I mean the police showing up in some areas are not welcome and just association by talking to the police will get you into trouble in some neighborhoods. I would venture to say that home theft and car theft to a much lessor degree isn't reported due to different variables.

My brother had an ATV stolen out of a shed a few years back. He reported it and about a year later he got a letter in the mail from the Police. It basically said, "Hey we haven't found your ATV, if you want us to keep the case open and keep looking let us know, otherwise we're going to close the case."

Who says crime doesn’t pay 🤣
Install of DGD went south immediately this mornin. T harness that goes in between the connector going to the right bar controls didn’t match the connector on Edsel. Going to have to give them a call tomorrow. Was soooo close to being keyless.

i had a bike stolen out of the garage years ago. The local PD took a report and that was that. Then, near the end of December, I get a call from them. I was excited, thinking they'd found it. Nope. They wanted to know if I'd found it. I told them that, not having powers of arrest, or qualified immunity and, being otherwise employed, I was not actively investigating the case.

Turns out, there's not enough chance of them finding anything to bother actually investigating, but there is enough chance that the victim will have stumbled across some form of resolution that they task an employee with cold calling all recent (this went on for about 3 years) theft victims in the hope that they'd found their property at a pawnshop, or cousin Eddie had confessed to nicking it, near the end of the year so they can "close" a few cases and juke their stats.

I reported both of mine, and in both cases, the respective PD effectively said, "Tough luck" (same as "round file").
They called me six months later and asked if I had found it, wanted to update their files. I said I thought that's what your job was to find it.
