New(ish) Cruiser Rider in Maryland

Take the rear wheel to a helpful local car tyre place, pay the man $20, and let him remove the old one and install the new one. Not all car places will do it, which is why you need a helpful one. I changed mine a couple of times, even with DS, but now I highly recommend paying a little man from the village to do it.

Another Marylander? Where you at, @Stillserving ? Whatchu doing Friday afternoon?

I'm down in SoMD near Solomon's Island (about an hour or so from you). I would love to go for a ride, but unfortunately have quite the honey-do list to start tackling before my youngest's college graduation party.....that is if everyone will calm down over COVID-19.....

Would definitely like to get some day trips together for the DMV area members though, lots of very nice scenery in them thar hills around here....

Well gents.... the masochism has begun. I hoisted the bike onto jack stands one side at a time using the kickstand as leverage. Got the rear wheel off. Decided to go straight for the sawzall method of removing the tire. Wasn't successful. Too scared to ruin the bead of the rim. Placed a 2x4 on the wall of the tire, threw a ratchet strap around it anf cranked unto I broke the bead. Pretty effective. I will remember this method. Time for a beer break. Might save the mounting of the new tire till tomorrow. I'll keep you all posted.

pics of this setup?!

what i did was drill a couple of holes small at first then 1/2 being carefull not to let the drill walk into the rim.
then i took a knife and just cut down to the bead then i took a cutoff saw and sliced through the steel beads. did both sides tire just came off.
putting the new tire on is another thing:(
i think it is best to use plastic ties to hold tire beads together because they want to come off as u put one side on.
