I am 150 km East of Batemans Bay and the wind has changed back and filled our house here in Canberra again. It is literally so thick it is worse than any a smoky poker den just looking across my non smoking parents lounge room upstairs.

A local friend and his wife had been for years looking forward to visiting her sister in Oz and arrived just as the fires were spreading. My friend said they were in the thick of it, that it was heartbreaking to see.
Yeah, no concerns about fire here at the moment but Canberra has been much closer to the still burning fires around Braidwood and Majors Creek in the past month or so. There is so much smoke over eastern Oz at the moment with it being blown from one state and area to another without fully clearing.
Our suburban house here was burnt down with another 500 houses back in the 2003 bushfires that entered the suburbs so we know how the 1000 plus new ex-home owners are feeling since this years fires started.
The lead singer Peter Garrett was a lawyer and became a Minister in the last Labor Government of Australia. He has performed with Midnight Oil again since leaving office.
