Yeah we drive for a living

I do not envy you blokes that operate those huge monsters in city traffic!

A term used in the machinist world more specifically us guys that did precision grinding using coolant.

Warpo,
Having a tool & dye maker & design engineer father and working as a tool & dye inspector for 4 years, I be hip to this.
I like the seldom seen word, lubricity, so I followed it up with its antonym, just for fun. :D

Viscosity 10W/40 or 15W/50
Type Semi or fully synthetic Straight from page 23 of the workshop manual.

We always use 15/50 here because of the climate. Coincidentally??? the bikes shift gears much better with a 50wt on the second number. Some customers up north of Oz we put Motul 15/60 in which works better. One guy who works in Newman sits on 200kph to work and back each day ( pretty much an hour each way) uses the 15/60 as it is pretty much always above 37 degrees there. Often above 40.

Well considering I have 4 bikes on the road and I drive for work 400 to 500 miles a day, getting 5000+ miles a year on the Rocket is pretty good for me. You bet I would like to have the time and money to ride all over like you guys can do. My day is coming. Only 6 more years to full retirement. Maybe??? I might be tempted to work another 8 years because I get a $5 hour raise in January 2020 and
another $11 hour raise January 2021. I can make some real bank for several years before retiring. Not decided yet to work that long. Have to see how I feel health wise.

Very interesting.
Thick viscosity in winter and thin in summer???
Know of any studies in support of this concept?

No mate been riding 45 years always got big klms out of my bikes I live in a hot humid summer so got a thing about always warming bike up from cold just something I picked up from bloke who trained me he was an old skool mechanic. No thinking behind it really.

I'm running Amsoil 15-50. I wish that the engine & transmission were not the same oil. I'm positive engine would run fine on 40 weigh. But I find transmission shift better with 50 weigh. Shifting is far less noisy with 50 weigh. I've even tried 60 weigh worked well but engine does not run hot enough for this stuff. Gas mileage shot up also. Had to try just to say that at least I know what I'm talking about with experience. Tried for 3 wks & came back to 15-50.

Engine Oil (1).jpg

I have been using Mobile 1, but I watched a video on Youtube comparing motor oils and Amsoil came out significantly better than Mobil.
The guy that does the testing tests all sorts of things and is quite good at it.

The Manual recommends Mobile, but that video was impressive, to say the least.
Next oil change I might just go to the Amsoil. I have already converted to K&N Oil Filters.

The only caveat is he compared oil for car engines and not motorcycle specific oils.
Here's the link if you are interested:

Maybe I'll send him a note and see if he will test motorcycle oil. He takes a lot of suggestions.
