Clutch adjustment/issue

Thanks for the picture. OH and did you soak your fibers in oil like over night? if not ya I can see the clutch being a little grippy but your idea can be valid. there should be a punch mark on the lifter shaft and the clutch actuating arm for alignment.

They soaked for about 4 hours I think, but the Barnett kit said 3 minutes!! 3 minutes ain't going to do a lot is it? But they are carbon fibre.

Interesting! your dots line up, mine are 3 splines out and towards the cable, I think that is reducing the effectiveness of the lever as it gets up towards the cable. I took a pic and put it back where it was but bike was written off, left hand side, so the arm may have been replaced.

Started thinking I just wasted £220 but the clutch plates were breaking apart so would have needed replacing, even if that wasnt causing the drag. I shall move the arm tomorrow and see.

when you go to pull it the shaft will spin a wee bit anti clockwise. That is the return spring I would hold the shaft with a straight blade screw driver or well actually I used a set of Hemostats when I had the internal spring. It is also easier if you put a little slack in the cable.

I hear normally the Carbon fiber clutches are a little grabbier then most. since your across the pond are you using Mobile1, 15W50? The engine really likes that stuff we used to be able to get it over here. If not Motul 300V 15W50 is pretty slick stuff.

A sore subject for me. From the time I bought the motorcycle I was annoyed by the lack of free play clutch lever. The first gear takes place with barking dogs... after heating the free play increases... The first thing I did was change the clutch discs to a Barnett kit, paying attention to the play of the lifter, in the axial direction (about 2 mm). I believe the wavy washer is responsible for compensating for thermal expansion, now I have a new washer and I see that the wave is much larger than the one that stands. By the way, the steel disks that I changed were burned, the lifter and the shaft without any damage…

Moved the actuator arm back to line up the dots and its all working much better now, loads more travel and clutch feels much better.

Was thinking, bike was a right off as it had been down on LHS, there was all sorts of scuffs here and there and the most sticky out bit behind rad, which was warped, is actuator so I guess someone had stuck it on wrong then I copied it and put it back in wrong place.

Anyways, thank you all so much for the help, even where I was pretty sure what I was doing, it was confirmation which helped a lot, and also the understanding of why something was as it was.

So, what next? a blower kit?
