Batwing Fairing on my Indian Scout

Since I parted with my beautiful 2008 Touring and opted for an Indian Scout to placate my tired, beat up old knees, I've been setting it up for touring. It's a fun bike and I'm gradually getting there.

I recently ordered a Memphis Shades batwing fairing and had it painted at a local friend's shop. Since I got the Scout, I've changed the seat, added highway bars and pegs and changed out the stock bars for 10 inch mini-apes.

Next I need to change out the rear shocks for the Progressive 413s, still in a box, so that I can mount my tan leather Indian saddlebags. So here it is. It was not a fun install but with a little help from a friend I finally got it to snap in.


While I still get to see my Touring, and Cameron has told me to take it out for a spin whenever I like, that's just not going to happen. As I have said in the past, the beautiful beast just outgrew the old timer.

The "Big Dark" has settled over western Washington with lots of rain but I'll pull the Scout onto my covered shop apron today and take a couple.

Gee, Mike, how come you didn't pay $1100 for the official Indian Scout fairing?

And I finally finished it yesterday. A friend came over and we changed out the shocks so I could install my saddlebags, which are off of an old Indian Chief, about a 2002. The original owner fabricated special mounts for it. I then installed my new mudflap from Capt Itch in Tennessee. I think that about does it. While it's a great bike, it's still not a Rocket but I believe it is ready for a long ride, just as winter is setting in. At least we had some beautiful fall days this week and I believe into next.

Ed, everything from Indian is stupidly expensive. I can't believe how much the new Scout fairing costs compared to the Memphis Shades.

Would normally jump at it Steve but I'm departing for the east coast on Friday with many things to get done tomorrow. Hopefully we'll have a few good days in November so I can ride over.

I couldn't leave well enough alone so bought the 1920 tractor seat for the Scout. It was quite the chore to install, having to lift the tank a bit, but I was able to finish it off this morning. I took a ride in 39 degree temps today and love the new seat. It puts me up higher and more forward. I also installed the Indian OEM fender rack, which sits flatter and higher than the POS Chinese one I bought a few months ago. I think I finally have it where it want it, well, maybe, unless I can think of something else.
