Bikes been in shop for a week for the recurring dreaded idle problems. This time they are replacing the throttle bodies and said the factory told the dealer that some material in the throttle bodies is deteriorating which causes an air leak so they are replacing them. There was a bike in getting the same last week. This was the first time ever that the factory admitted a problem other than a bad tune and since the parts alone are almost two thousand dollars I tend to believe em. Time will tell.

Well Murder, that was an issue with the old amal carbs. The aluminum bodies would wear out.

Yep, slides were made of the same crap alloy material as the body, not good

Not so sure about this thing with the Rocket though. There have been plenty of people with this problem, and its been sorted out in different ways, personally i think its a software problem that they cant get their heads around.
I am looking forward to hearing more about this throttle body thing though.

I wanted to talk to the owner of the other bike but was on vacation in carribean last week so I don't know what they told that guy and if it solved the problem. But apparently we had both been back several times with them progressively checking different things with the h/l idle only getting worse. Other than checking things I think these are the only "parts" they've ever replaced on mine trying the fix the idle but maybe they went to this worrying about liability with it basically setting the rpms at any speed I ride more than a minute or two.

Strange that 3 years of idle problems seem to all have different solutions.Himmm Wonder if any two techs have diagnosed the problem as the same thing??Now I hear the new touring has the same gas gauge problem as 4 years ago..Wonder if they will ever figure it out??

I haven't had to replace any throttle bodies, but have heard of it being done more then a few times. It's because of wear in the area of the throttle shaft. This is a common place to pick up a vaccume leak on a TBI unit, or carb that uses a butterfly.

Triumph will fix it if the tech finds it............ If the tech finds it

...and wouldn't yah know, Triumph replaced the throttle bodies with better materials, maybe even better design in the new Touring model. They knew something was up with them things for a while if it made it into production now. I haven't seen the new TBs in person though. Wonder if they are same design but just use better materials.
