Phone / GPS ram mount

Ram has a 1" ball mount where the base is hollow and you mount it in place of one of the bolts that hold the clocks down. From the 1" ball you get one of their extensions and phone/gps mounts. Mine ended up immediately behind the flyscreen. Oh...one other thing...my fly screen is pushed forward a couple of inches using stainless steel bolts and barrel nuts. I would post pics, but unfortunately I am in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico at work

Removed the top handlebar clamp.
Placed a 1" clamp with a ram ball in the center.
Used a small double clamp Ram extension in order to make a more rigid connection.
Tried the straight bar and it vibrated way too much.

@AJ1 , when you mounted the holder/charger for the phone did you use a switched power or take it directly off of the battery? If you did go switched where did you plug into?

thanks

Sorry, can't offer any help, but I would also like to mount my phone in there. I have seen the odd picture where the owner had it there, but I've never thought to ask. My son uses the RAM X mount on his FZ09, it's never fallen out of it.

I guessing he doesn’t get the front end vertical like @Steel

The unit I bought has a a switch on the back of the holder. The unit is wired directly to battery using positaps on existing wires. This unit has a in-line fuse in case something goes wrong.

For anything that is switched by ignition key, I tapped a wire from the headlight unit and use that wire for the control line of relay. I also add additional switch. For example, the crash bar mounted running lights from RIGID Industries has a additional switch added to drive the relay. This light would be turned on only if ignition is on and the dedicated switch is on.

For the most secure phone mounts, you must check out slip grip mounts. Google Slipgrip mounts and you will find a mount that fits your phone in specific cases, and the mount you get fits 100% perfect, no areas that are open for it to slide out -- and they can be installed on Ram Mounts as well.

The 1" clamp with the ball in the center that you placed under the handlebar clamp, what does it actually bolt to? Have a link or picture of that clamp? Maybe with a picture I can figure out how you mounted it.
Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but with winter here for me, it's now time to start modding instead of riding.
Cheers,
Dean
