Ride
Triumph Rocket III
I recently bought an used 2007 Triumph Rocket 3, which has custom made Batwing fairing with short windshield from previous owner. (see the pic below).

Ever Since from my first ride on this bike on the highways over 60 MPH, I noticed that my full face helmet rattles and the wind blows from the fairing gaps shown in the marked red area in below picture on the bottom of the chin area, which pulls the helmet upwards and creates a rattling effect, which is very annoying. This is such an uncomfortable feeling that I couldn't even read the number plate of the vehicle in front of me. And also another issue was that with the engine heating, and the hot air that blows on to the rider, which I feel because of this fairing hot air couldn't escape appropriately.

I guess the reason behind the previous owner might not have this issue was that he was shorter than me, which could have avoided the wind blowing effect on to his face. This fairing could have been made as per his height.

I had this ridden by one of my friends who owns a R3 but he doesn't have this fairing on his bike. He too felt the same issue with engine heating and wind blowing effect, which made him also uncomfortable riding beyond 60 MPH speed. He suggested me to remove the fairing and try. Now the fairing has been removed and I could make 70 - 80 MPH on the highways without the side effects mentioned above. But only difference now is that, you feel like flying as there is no air dampening. And also now I feel that my slow moving maneuverability is effortless than before, because of the weight reduction the the handle.

But out of my curiosity I would like to know, Is it the same case with whoever installed this batwing fairing on their R3s with the windshield? Please suggest me should there be any solution or suggestion.

the first thing i did to my rocket was to remove the screen and panniers. with the screen on, it felt like my head was in a washing machine,,(ive not fully recovered yet)

Yes, I had the same feeling. Now I am relieved of this pain and enjoying my rides. :)

Well, I'm glad you posted these comments. I believe that is a Corbin Fairing, and a pricey one at that! I was thinking about buying one, but after your comments I'll stick with the windshield or naked.

It may be different on the R3T, IIRC they have a different front end geometry than the other R3s. But you are right about that being a Corbin fairing and yes they are just a little spendy. You can post and ask people which fairing works on their R3T and any pros/cons of that particular model. It may help you decide. I get along just fine with my tall windshield (with wind deflectors) for cooler months and the short one for warmer months.
