Darkside Size?????

In another thread they were talking about a 245/50-16 on a standard R3 ... anyone had any clearance problems with that size? I assume thats the widest tire that will fit ... right?

I am replaceing my Goodyear Eagle F-1 with another just like it at 19,500 miles. There is still plenty of tread, but I don't want to screw with it during riding season. It's a little more expensive ($175) but I didn't do it to save money I just wasn't happy with a $200+ tire that went 3600 miles. These tires are safe, cause the world is flat:D

I follow all the points, except the cornering.
No reduction in cornering over stock metz at above 20mph.
...I really dislike the squirrelly feel of that fat tire on wet roads and road paint.
What squirrelly feel? Have you ridden a dark side Rocket?
What are the down sides, besides that apparently my Triumph dealer would not mount such a tire on my wheel?
The dealer isn't going to assume your liability.

The key thing you said was that you are not a peg-dragger which makes a move to the darkside a no-brainer.

I run a 225/55ZR16 Riken Raptor for many of the reasons you mentioned. It is the closest size to the stock 240/50 without being any smaller. The standards books say it is 1.2% larger in circumference. It corrects the speedo error just a bit and I believe that it helps a tad on the gas mileage. You said that you want it to approximate the feel of the Metz, but I sorry to say, you are not going to get that. You will adjust very quickly to the new feel.

I have been to 2 cycle shops and a car /truck shop to get my dark side tire put on, and no one is able to actually the Car/Truck place tore the bead out and ordered me a new one... Any ideas on how to get it on the rim?

Thanks

Tom

This simply makes me wonder - what the general standard of Tyre places is near you. You have my sympathies.

Ive been told that the Subaru Dealership have a machine that will accomplish this task , headed there after work...

General observation...the fact Darksiders have to try so hard to justify this move to me just proves ....bike tires are for bikes and car tires are for cars.
I think it more a US issue - here tyre places will simply fit the tyre to the rim. And D/S here is really really rare. My tyre guy said - sounds intriguing - let's do it!. - Getting the Land Rover tyres to seat on the LR rims I thing took more effort. Then again I see comments about US places damaging rims etc - beats me how unless the operative is basically incompetent.

2 motor cycle shops, and I'm on my 3rd tire shop and no one can mount the 225/55ZR16 Riken Raptor on my R3 Rim... Now its a mission of mine.. I'm just sick of buying a rear tire each year and watching it degrade before my eyes.

I had a similar experience.
2 bike shops 3 tire shops. Most said they didn't have the equipment.
The Honda dealer said no, as in go screw.

Finally, Yamaha in Flemington NJ did it.
He mentioned they do car tires for a lot of Goldwing guys ;-)
Don't give up. Maybe go to a Goldwing forum and ask there for a DS installer.
