2005 rocket III/2018 rocket III
So have owned a 2005 for several years and just got a 2018 roadster a few weeks ago.

I'll start with the good. At first i wasn't digging so much black out until i got it. Loving it and the red stripes. Riding position is comfortable. It certainly feels lighter at low speeds and corners better. A few more options on the gauges.

The bad. The brake and clutch levers weren't meant for someone with small or normal hands and with the rounded edge my hands slip off when im pulling gears hard, sure ill get use to it. Pretty sure this one is even quieter.

And the ugly. Now its got just over 100 miles on it now. I am a bit underwhelmed at the power compared to my 2005 when it was running at its best. With out a doubt it doesn't pull as hard down low, seemed to have a flatter power ban and wouldnt break 120mph. Ive had my 05 to 145. Also on my first ride it stalled on me and has the low rpm stumble when you are lugging it and crack the throttle like the 05. Also mileage is terrible.

Now tonight unhooked the battery and let the computer readjust. It definitely pulls a bit harder and feel the mid range pull a bit more like the 05 but still barely broke 120, wouldn't quite hit 125.

So my question is, do these things come with a break in tune? I bought it it California, did they detune those for emissions? I will eventually be doing intake powercommander and exhaust.

Anyone no more about these to fill me in on whats going on. I thought these didnt have the low gear restriction.

Thanks

Hmm welcome, glad to have you.

Roadsters do indeed come about 5-10 HP behind the originals, but, it's a free ECU flash from full power (and then some).

Penners tune is a great one for a stock bike, check the resources section on the top bar.

Stalling before the first service is common, it's a dead give away the dealer didn't calibrate the TPS correctly, which is a 1st service item.

The bikes governed to I think 125 with the stock tune. Penners will let you go 186mph if you've the power to get there :p

Thanks for the info. I'll certainly be doing some power upgrades in the near future. Also forgot to mention how much nicer this one shifts.

The levers are adjustable, should have like four different positions. Just over 100 miles on it and already doing 120 mph...not one for breaking things in easy are you?

Yes i know about the adjustments but they dont move much. Also the whole brake in thing is bs. Theres never been a study on if breaking something in easy or hard makes a difference and 120 on this bike isnt being that hard. If i wanted a bike i needed to baby i would have got a harley.

welcome aboard...I have a 2016..from new...same bike...
I ran mine for 500km's and changed the oil to Amsoil at first service.
Have had it out to 210 clicks (KPH) didnt think there was much more left tho...fast enuff for me..
p.s. I have PCV and dyno tune aimed at smoothing out the air/fuel and getting the lean out of the tune that they leave the factory with.

Welcome from same city as Tal Christchurch New Zealand.

I am a really happy owner of a 2006 classic.

You hang around here long enough some one will talk you into putting a Turbo on the beast to get the get up and go.

I was running penners tune on my 2018 when all I had was tors and crosspipe and it was extremely lean. I put it on dyno to check and in 5th gear st 3k rpm it was at 17 on afr. Right where I cruise 70mph.

So I bought the ramair and switched to hanso tune which sits right at 13-14 now
