Just purchased a cellphone holder that connects to the battery. I notice it has a inline fuse. Is this something you should do with anthing attached direct to battery?

The fuse is there to protect what ever you have plugged into the other end from a short or excessive current draw. Typically anything that you connect to the battery that supplies power to something else you would use a fuse in line.

I use a power distribution block which connects to the battery through a relay connected to a switched source. From there you can connect your devices to the distribution block with a built in fuse.

Yes, I would always recommend an in-line fuse to protect your device and the wiring...and anything the wiring touches... if there were to be a short.

Well the fuse is really there to prevent the wiring from burning - the device is probably already toast, hence the short/excess current to begin with! :D

You are indeed correct sir but first something has to create a short in Oder for enough current to flow through the wire which in turn will cause the wire to burn. Depending on the circuit you are wishing to protect you have an option of a slow blow or fast acting fuse.

Everything that i have ever connected to my bikes comes directly from the battery with a fuse, that way if it malfunctions it will no fry anything from the oem equipment:)

Always have a fuse when connecting new electrical items to the battery. Make sure you are fused when driving in traffic and don’t be afraid to pull into some nice establishment to reset your fuse should it pop in traffic

I just bought a cig lighter with alagator clips that I connect to the battery and I plug in whatever device needs changing into that they all have a fuse already in the usb charger thingy.
